How it works

Ohio uses a simple three-band state tax structure: no tax on the first $26,050 of taxable income, 2.75% up to $100,000, and 3.125% above that — among the lowest state tax burdens in the country. These bands apply the same way regardless of filing status. Many Ohio cities and school districts also levy a separate local municipal income tax, which this calculator does not include.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include Ohio’s local city tax?

No. Most Ohio municipalities and school districts charge their own local income tax, commonly 1%–2.5%, on top of the state rates shown here. Check your specific city for its rate.

What is Ohio’s state income tax rate?

Ohio uses three bands: 0% up to $26,050, 2.75% up to $100,000, and 3.125% above that, for the current tax year. These are the same regardless of filing status.

Why is there no married-filing difference for Ohio?

Ohio applies the same tax bands to everyone regardless of filing status, unlike the federal system and many other states.

How accurate is this for Ohio specifically?

It uses Ohio’s published 2025 state tax bands, but not local municipal tax. See the main US take-home pay calculator for all 50 states.
