How it works
Ontario uses five provincial tax brackets from 5.05% up to 13.16%, plus Ontario’s own Basic Personal Amount of $12,747, on top of federal tax, CPP and EI. Ontario also charges a provincial surtax on top of provincial tax once it passes certain thresholds, which this calculator does not model, so results for higher earners may be slightly understated.
Frequently asked questions
What is Ontario’s Basic Personal Amount?
$12,747 for the current tax year — a non-refundable tax credit, not a straightforward deduction, worth 5.05% of that amount off your Ontario tax bill.
Does this include Ontario’s provincial surtax?
No. Ontario charges an additional surtax on provincial tax above certain thresholds, on top of the standard brackets. This calculator does not model it, so results for higher earners are a slight underestimate.
What is Ontario’s top tax rate?
13.16%, applying to taxable income over $220,000 for the current tax year. Combined with the top federal rate of 33%, the highest combined marginal rate in Ontario is over 46%.
How accurate is this for Ontario specifically?
It uses Ontario’s published 2025 tax brackets and Basic Personal Amount, but not the provincial surtax. See the main Canada take-home pay calculator for all provinces and territories.
